The GM Mini-Bronco-like EV that Was Unveiled in China will Likewise be Available as a Pickup

There will soon be an electric pickup truck version of the little Bronco-like Baojun Yep EV (YueYe in Chinese), which is produced by the partnership among GM, SAIC, and Wuling Motors (SGMW) in China.

Launch of an EV SUV in the form of a pickup by SGMW

Last month, SGMW formally introduced the Baojun Yep, one of China’s most stylish electric SUVs.

After photos of an electric SUV leaked in March, like a scaled-down Ford Bronco, we had an accurate depiction as to what the Yep might look like. It is frequently contrasted with the Suzuki Jimny.

We have only witnessed an electric SUV model up until now. Despite this, Baojun on Monday debuted a two-door, two-seater, completely electric pickup variant known as the Yep via its Weibo account.

The SUV model is a four-seater that is about two feet smaller than the Suzuki Jimny with a petrol engine at 3,381 mm in length, 1,685 mm in width and 1,721 mm in height.

The electric SUV’s single rear electric motor can produce up to 68 horsepower, 103 lb-ft of peak torque, and a top speed of 62 mph. Under CLTC conditions, the lithium iron phosphate battery provides 188 miles (303 km) of range.

Despite having a tough Bronco-like off-road appearance, the electric SUV is significantly smaller and more suited for urban use. The pickup version might be used in this situation.

Many of the design elements of the tiny electric pickup’s SUV counterpart are there, but it also has a truck bed and a spare tyre in the back. Since the powertrain is probably still in development, SGMW hasn’t yet released specifications. We can assume that it will feature an SUV-like powertrain.

E Auto Arena’s Opinion

The Wuling Mini EV, China’s best-selling all-electric car in 2022, is SGMW’s most well-known product. By 2022, sales of the Wuling Mini had surpassed 500,000, accounting for close to 10% of all EV sales in China.

With SUVs, the automaker is now targeting a different demographic, and it appears that ultimately, electric trucks targeted at younger drivers will follow.

Pickup trucks are growing in popularity in China as more people take up hobbies and travel more, according to CarNewsChina. The electric truck industry is being pursued by a number of Chinese automakers, including BYD with their “F” brand model. When we learn more about SGMW’s electric pickup, we’ll keep you informed.
