Police Initially Thought the Tesla Fire was Battery-Related – However, It Was Actually Arson

In Spokane, Washington, a Tesla Model S that was stationed on the street was discovered on fire. Police initially thought that the fire started naturally because of the batteries, but it was actually set intentionally.

Electric vehicles have an undeserved reputation for catching fire, despite the fact that there is no evidence to support this.

The Spokane PD first assumed that Harrold Harriston’s Tesla Model S was on fire because the reputation has grown despite the absence of evidence.

According to Harriston, the police warned him that electric cars “tend to” catch fire. He objected, but until he managed to produce the Sentry Cam footage from his car, they didn’t trust him.

Sentry Cam, an integrated dashcam device from Tesla, captures video of activity around a moving car. It has been employed in the past to apprehend criminals, particularly vandals who damage Tesla automobiles.

The Tesla was able to capture video of a person approaching it, dousing it in petrol and setting it ablaze. Harriston sent the footage to the neighbourhood media:

That helped the police come to the conclusion that there had been an arson rather than a spontaneous Tesla vehicle fire. They are currently searching for the offender in the hopes that they may discover the reason for the action.

Harriston asserts that he is a visitor to Spokane and does not even reside there. There was no obvious motive for someone to set his automobile ablaze.

It’s unclear if the car’s electric or Tesla status led to its targeting. Persons who oppose electric vehicles have in the past attacked Tesla vehicles and facilities for charging. This might be among those instances or it might just be random vandalism.
