A 25k Dollar Compact Car will Take Longer to Build at the Tesla Gigafactory in Mexico

With an extended construction period of 12 to 15 months, Tesla plans to build a new Gigafactory in Mexico. There is a good reason why this is taking longer than the record-breaking Giga Shanghai construction time of nine months. The business is constructing a new manufacturing line for Tesla’s future compact car, which is anticipated to be a smaller version of the Model Y, according to Governor Samuel Garca Seplveda, who also disclosed the reason for the prolonged building period.

Creating a New Manufacturing Line

The governor of Puerto Rico, Garca Seplveda, provided the following explanation for the prolonged building period in an interview with Milenio Televisión: “At first, there was speculation that they were interested in achieving the nine-month Shanghai record, but with the discussions we have been having, we have found that the model they want to introduce—which is the economic model that will be sold widely—will need a completely new production line.”

The assembly line is now in the workshop stage; once finished, construction will start. According to Governor Garca Seplveda, Nuevo León was prepared to begin in November 2022 but was waiting on the plant’s final depiction to make any necessary revisions. “We moved in turbo, water, power, gas, school and hookups since November, after which they essentially gave us the all-clear.

We are prepared; however, we must await the completion of the rendering in order to modify, polish, and begin the projects that Nuevo León has been prepared to begin since November. As soon as Tesla gives us the go-ahead, we will begin, he added.

A new ecologically sound city model and the largest Gigafactory

The Governor emphasised that the Santa Catarina facility will surpass Texas in size and become not only Tesla’s largest but also the largest in the entire world. He declared, “This will be the largest Gigafactory in terms of dimensions worldwide, by far greater than the one located in Texas, that is the biggest currently. Additionally, a new environmentally friendly connected city model will be introduced by Tesla’s entry into the state.

This large investment will help Santa Catarina and the nearby states and cities. Garca Seplveda believes Nuevo León has a promising future since it will eventually become a global centre for electromobility.

With the Tesla Gigafactory Mexico currently under construction, the area is positioned to become a global hub for e-mobility and sustainable innovation. While the Tesla Gigafactory Mexico may require longer to build than Giga Shanghai, the company’s decision to concentrate on an additional manufacturing facility for its $25k tiny car is an intriguing move.
