Possible Presence of ChatGPT on Next GM Vehicles

General Motors (GM) is investigating the usage of ChatGPT in its upcoming vehicles as a result of its partnership with Microsoft.

The AI chatbot might alter how people use technology in their daily lives, including their cars, according to General Motors and its partner Microsoft. According to Scott Miller, vice president of GM, “ChatGPT is going to be in everything,” he told Reuters. The carmaker is currently looking into using the technology in upcoming cars.

Although GM hasn’t offered any details on the capabilities ChatGPT might add to its vehicles, the few samples that have been given show promise. ChatGPT not only has the potential to greatly enhance voice commands for vehicles, but it can also be used in conjunction with phone and home integration to dramatically expand the number of usable commands available. Any task, ranging from “open my garage door” to “plan a route to the doctor’s office and reserve a charging place for me when I get there,” may be included.

GM immediately clarified that ChatGPT was capable of far more than just voice commands. GM thinks ChatGPT may keep its vehicles feeling new and fresh for a longer period of time by combining with additional cutting-edge technologies.

Oddly, this is a novel application of AI in the car industry. Few manufacturers have looked at using AI in infotainment or customer experiences, while several, like Tesla, are solely focused on implementing it in autonomous driving. This might not continue for very long, though.

Tesla’s own AI Team

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, is apparently putting together a team of AI researchers to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, a project he previously assisted in co-founding. It should be noted that there have been no formal announcements made about this team or project.

It is only a matter of time before AI gets integrated with our cars as it continues to become a necessary component of our daily life. And while the focus of that endeavour is currently on its integration into autonomous driving, GM and ChatGPT demonstrate that won’t always be the case.
