Uncovered in China, the Nio ET5 Wagon will Launch in Europe First

According to reports, the Nio ET5 station wagon was created especially for the European market, however it will also be available in China.

Nio Station Wagon ET5 in Europe

Although wagons are slowly losing market share to SUVs in developed auto markets like the United States and China, they are still quite popular in Europe.

But regardless of the market, electric station wagons are incredibly difficult to come by. We find it difficult to think of any other all-electric wagons now for sale, with the exception of the MG MG5 EV and the Porsche Taycan Sport/Cross Turismo.

Nevertheless, we’ll be able to add a third vehicle to the list because Chinese EV startup Nio will soon introduce a wagon version of its ET5 electric sedan, which competes with the Tesla Model 3.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) of China has released the first images of it as a part of the homologation procedure. While being available in China as well, Nio built the ET5 wagon particularly for the European market, according to Car News China. Anything you need to know about the electric wagon is provided below.

Same But Different from its Sedan Cousin

From a style standpoint, it resembles the Nio ET5 sedan perfectly from the front, but when viewed from the side, the third lateral window is wider and the roofline is longer and less swooping.

When viewed from the rear, the Nio ET5 wagon exhibits a sizable roof spoiler over the more upright rear window, which also has a small wiper. The taillights and light bar that connects them, the aggressive bumper with an air diffuser at the bottom, and everything else appear to be extremely recognisable.

The Nio ET5 wagon is the same dimensions as the sedan, measuring 188.6 inches in length, 77.1 inches in width, 59 inches in height, and 113.7 inches in wheelbase.

Battery and Range Options

The Nio ET5 wagon will have three battery options, just like the sedan. The 75 kWh hybrid ternary-LFP (NMC-LFP) battery pack for the standard range model, the 100 kWh ternary battery pack for the long range model, and the 150 kWh semi-solid state battery pack for the extreme long range model.

The ET5 wagon will offer battery switch technology, much like all Nio vehicles. The car’s motors will also be shared with the sedan; all models have a dual-motor arrangement that combines a front-axle 150 kW (201 hp) motor and a rear-axle 210 kW (281 hp) motor. 360 kW is the maximum combined power (482 hp).

Nio hasn’t revealed the name yet, but a staff member told Car News China that it will be dubbed the ET5 Touring. The ET5 sedan is produced in NeoPark, a different factory that is entirely owned by Nio, which makes it noteworthy that production will take place at the JAC-Nio factory in Hefei.
