Volvo planning to come up with electric sedans and wagons lineup after SUVs

Volvo, a Swedish luxury car brand has put their affirmation that they will work on electric sedans and wagons. The statement after they have been rolling out some of its electric SUVs in the market. Although, there’s no statement regarding a specific timeframe for the launch of these electric vehicles from the automaker.

But at the same time, there are certain points that are indicated by Volvo CEO, Jim Rowan. As he also gives a hint that this strategy would be implemented over the coming years. It is when the demands from a certain market have arisen.

Additionally, after the introduction of the Volvo XC40 and C40 recharge, the EX90 is the newest all-electric SUV from the brand.  The same has been recently unveiled while it has its debut in the market in 2023. On the other hand, Volvo is still tight-lipped for its next EV project.

Although, Rowan has given some gleaming statements in an interview with Auto car. It says that sedans and wagons will play a vital part in Volvo’s electric product lineup in the coming future. He also stated that the automaker is trying to acquire various customer requirements these days.

“Our strategy is that we will be tight. We’ll look after the demographic that we think makes sense. We’ve teased what’s coming next, and we’d already signalled we’d do a smaller SUV. Then different formats, saloons, and estates or whatever. We’ll get to that when we get to that,” Volvo CEO Jim Rowan.

On product strategy, Rowan has a view that platforms and technology sharing between electric vehicles will play an essential role. In order to lower the costs of electric vehicles in the near future. He also said that price parity between the ICE vehicles and BEVs is one of the most vital factors.

“No industry can rely on subsidies for a long period of time. You’ve got to make sure that you can be comparative,” Rowan said.

Volvo EX90 SPA2 architecture

Volvo EX90 is the flagship electric SUV which is built on the new SPA2 architecture. The automaker is also presently working on a smaller EV platform that is dubbed Sustainable experience Architecture (SEA). In addition to the information, the platform is being developed in joint association with Volvo and Geely for smaller electric vehicles.
