On of January 1, Maharashtra had registered a total of 3,15,90,000 new two-wheelers for the fiscal year 2022–23. Over the 2,99,46,070 registrations reported in 2021–22, this represents a 5.5% rise.
According to data from the economic survey, Mumbai recorded 14,42,380 new four-wheeler bookings in 2022–23, a 6.1% rise from the 13,58,840 registrations in 2021–22.
Steep Increase in EV Sales
The state economic report, released on Wednesday, states that Maharashtra registered 1,00,750 battery-powered electric vehicles (EVs) in 2022–2023, a 130% rise over 2021–2022 registrations. The state recorded 7,544 new EVs in 2020–2021 and 43,722 new EVs in 2021–2022.
Building Charging Infrastructure in Maharashtra
The Maharashtra Electric Vehicle Policy (2021), published by the Maharashtra government in 2021, aims to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles in the state by the year 2025. The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) is the state’s lead organisation for creating an infrastructure for car charging.
Throughout the state, there are 26 electric vehicle charging stations covering Navi Mumbai (11), Thane (7), Pune (5), Nagpur (1), Kolhapur (1), and Solapur (1).

Four-wheeler registrations increased in Maharashtra from 61,82,100 in the 2021–2022 period to 66,32,370 in the following year, a 7.3% rise. Mumbai has a 21.7% part of this.
