Mahindra’s Electric Rickshaw Driven by Bill Gates, Says India Creativity Never Fails to Surprise

On his trip to India, Bill Gates uploaded a video of himself operating an electric three-wheeler from Mahindra. He also discussed the vehicle and the necessity of adopting EVs for a stable future.

Bill Gates, renowned billionaire and co-founder of Microsoft, is currently travelling through India and partaking in a number of fresh experiences. A video of the businessman preparing lunch alongside union minister Smriti Irani was recently circulated online. The millionaire then made headlines for meeting businessman Anand Mahindra, a friend from college. Gates was recently seen operating an electric rickshaw made of a Mahindra Treo, which was another addition to this list. He posted a video of himself operating the electric three-wheeler on his Instagram account.

The video, that Bill Gates uploaded on his Instagram account, begins with the tagline “Gates Notes” before seeing the multibillionaire turning on the e-rickshaw and taking pleasure in his unique driving experience. In the video, he also offered some guidance on the electric three-wheeler. With reference to the Mahindra Treo, he states, “To get on the road to a zero-carbon emissions world, we’re going to need to reimagine the way we conduct everything, from agriculture to transportation.”

Praising Mahindra

Bill Gates shared the video while expressing his admiration for India’s advances. During this time, he also gave his thoughts on the Mahindra Treo electric rickshaw. “India has an unwavering enthusiasm for invention. I operated an electric rickshaw that could travel up to 131 km (81 miles) and hold up to 4 passengers. It is encouraging to see businesses like Mahindra work to reduce carbon emissions in the transportation sector “he added.

Mahindra Treo – Specs

The Mahindra Treo electric three-wheeler passenger rickshaw costs between Rs. 2.92 and Rs. 3.02 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. The lithium-ion battery in the e-rickshaw provides 8 kW of power and 42 Nm of torque. The firm claims that operating an e-rickshaw can cost as little as 50 paise per km. Also, the battery of the vehicle can be recharged in 3 hours and 50 minutes.
