Guwahati Gets Electric Vehicles from Assam to Reduce Carbon Emissions

After the Assam Mission will be a week-long series of district-level initiatives addressing each of the seven LIFE action categories will take place from March 22 through March 28, 2023.

Assam’s Mission LiFe Initiative

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, stated that by 2026, all public transportation will be powered by electricity and non-fossil fuels in an effort to reduce carbon emissions. Electric vehicles are now being introduced in Guwahati.

At a gathering gathered in the GMCH auditorium, Sarma introduced Mission LiFE to Assam. The Science, Technology, and Climate Change Department is sponsoring a week-long programme called Mission LiFE to introduce Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mission LiFE goal (Lifestyle for Environment). Following the mission in Assam, a week-long series of district-level events targeting all seven types of LiFE initiatives will be conducted from March 22 through March 28, 2023.

Seven Days, Seven Categories

Throughout the course of seven days, the seven activity categories will be monitored. The first day will be devoted to conserving water, the second to conserving energy, the third to reducing single-use plastic, the fourth to adopting sustainable food systems, the fifth to decreasing waste, the sixth to decreasing E-Waste, and the seventh to adopting a healthy lifestyle.

Global Warming Looming Threat to the Planet

According to Sarma, global warming poses a grave threat to the survival of the world. As a result of global warming, exceptional floods and droughts, the need for clean drinking water is becoming increasingly clear and significantly affects the economy. In these conditions, he said, there is an increasing need for the general public to be made aware of the negative effects that global warming has on nature, as well as on flora and wildlife.

The Chief Minister added that Guwahati’s wetland and greenery had significantly decreased over the past few years. As a result, the city’s residents and its neighbours are dealing with serious problems related to their health and environment. Although many people have a theoretical understanding of climate change and its negative repercussions, he added, everyone needs to change their way of life and take concrete efforts to stop the trend of environmental destruction.

On a Mission to Make Assam Cleaner & Greener under PM Modi

Sarma also stated that the Government of Assam has begun taking several steps to support the country’s transition to green energy in light of the vision for the country to generate 500 GW of solar power by 2030. Sarma made reference to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has been a proponent for clean and green energy. He said that his country’s administration has already started the steps necessary to produce 3000 Megawatts of solar energy. He added that the state government is launching electric vehicles in Guwahati in order to reduce carbon emissions, and that by 2026, all forms of public transportation will be powered by electricity and non-fossil fuels.

Dr. Sarma also mentioned that his administration is implementing a number of environmentally beneficial measures, such as employing earthenware instead of plastic cups, among other things.

In addition, Sarma stated that the Assam State Government has started action to reclaim 6067 hectors of forest land from those who had encroached onto it. This has significantly aided the state in regaining its green coverage. On this occasion, Jesus invited everyone to pitch in and help Mission LiFE succeed.

According to him, commitment to Mission LIFE will aid the state in water and energy conservation as well as the promotion of desirable lifestyles for the wise utilisation of natural resources.
