Electric Vehicle Charging Facilities are Being Included to Waze’s Route Planner

Because of its crowdsourced map editing capability, the Google-owned navigation tool claims that its EV charging finder will be the most accurate.

Waze to Now Include EV Charging Facilities in Route Planning

Owners of electric vehicles who favour Waze to other navigation apps will rejoice as the Google-owned firm is now including EV charging stations in its route planning features to enhance the user experience.

Waze users may now enter their vehicle’s information and desired plug type into the app, and Waze will locate the closest charging stations along their trip. In the “coming weeks,” the tool will be made available to users everywhere. (How it will function at launch is debatable; several customers claimed to have been sent to petrol stations rather than EV chargers.)

In 2021, in cooperation with VW, Waze conducted a limited test in which EV chargers were added to its trip planning feature. Nevertheless, that trial was short-lived, and once it was through, the charging stations disappeared from the app. According to a business spokeswoman, Waze has “permanently” integrated EV charging to the app with today’s announcement.

But according to Waze, “EV data is analysed and updated in real-time to deliver the most precise, detailed information to the map,” because of the crowdsourced map updating feature.

Waze writes in a blog post that “charging station information is sometimes inaccurate, out-of-date, or inaccurate, which causes a significant challenge for EV drivers who may travel to a charging station only to find they can’t find it or use it. It’s now even simpler to charge your car and get assistance determining where or when you’ll come to the following station thanks to the addition of current EV charging data to the Waze map.”

Waze Becoming Better With Google

Waze isn’t the sole navigation app working to make finding an active EV charger easier. Waze’s owner, Google, has made changes to its own Google Maps app, adding details about the types of plugs available at specific charging stations and if those plugs are presently in use. Also, the business has updated its built-in Google software for EV charging queries for electric vehicles.

There is a multitude of EV recharging navigation tools, from A Better Trip Planner to PlugShare to Chargeway. Each has advantages and disadvantages. Yet with these new improvements, Waze might soon become the service that EV owners prefer the most.
