First Medium-Duty Electric Truck Is Introduced By Mack Trucks

The MD Electric, the company’s first EV in the medium-duty trucking market, was just introduced by Mack Trucks.

The second electric vehicle (EV) that Mack Trucks, a member of the Volvo Group, has introduced is the MD Electric. In December 2021, the Mack LR Electric garbage truck arrived on the scene.

Class 6 and Class 7 ratings will be made accessible for the Mack MD Electric. The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) for the Class 6 model is 25,995 pounds, while the GVWR for the Class 7 variant is 33,000 pounds. The federal excise tax of 12% does not apply to either model.

Partnership with SEA Electric

In a five-year arrangement, SEA Electric, a leading manufacturer of electric commercial vehicles, will provide its SEA-Drive power system to Mack Trucks. The SEA-Drive 120 and 180 power systems will be included with the Class 6 and 7 versions.

Founder and CEO of SEA Electric, Tony Fairweather, stated:

During testing, the Mack MD6 with SEA-Drive performed a taxing durability evaluation that was the equivalent of more than 500,000 miles on a track that was extremely difficult and challenging.

The Mack MD Electric will be made in Roanoke Valley, Virginia, where the Mack MD Series was first built by Mack in 2020.

By 2030, Mack Trucks wants 35% of its sales to come from zero-emission trucks, and it wants to cut emissions from its operations and freight transport by 50%.
