Tesla maybe the target of a global price war: Model Y costs up to $20,500 less to buy in the US

According to local reports, the company may now face the same mix of protests from former Tesla customers and a rush of new ones in Western markets following price cuts in China at the beginning of January. Because Tesla reduced the prices of the Model 3 and Model Y on Friday night, sometimes by double-digit percentages, not just in Germany and Europe.

In the United States, they fell even more, which means that most Model 3 and Model Y customers can get the entire new $7500 promotion.

Effectively, Model Y prices drop by 30%

Tesla media in the United States, in contrast to Europe, reportedly did not mention the price increase and did not send an explanation for it. He was, of course, found anyway. The Model Y Long Range, which now costs $52,990, has seen the most change, according to the Electrek blog.

This is a bigger change than most European markets. In parallel, the price in the United States has fallen below $55,000, the threshold above which electric passenger cars have received a $7,500 tax credit since this year.

On the other hand, on Friday, Tesla did not provide the Model Y Performance with this selection. Even though its price dropped 19% to $56,990, it was still too expensive to make.

On the other hand, the Model Y Long Range has had a price reduction of 20%, which means that customers will pay a total of $30,500 less for it than they did before. The Model 3 Performance achieves a similar dimension. The US price dropped by 14% to $53,990, which is also below the subsidy limit.

This means a price that is a good quarter lower overall and an additional savings of $7500 for customers. Tesla has reduced the price by $3,000 of the previously eligible base Model 3 model.

Worldwide, Tesla electric vehicles cost less:

In contrast to Europe, the Model S and Model X have seen price reductions of 9 to 15% in the United States; the Model S’s base model now costs less than $100,000, or $94,990. On the other hand, Tesla recently significantly increased the prices of the Model S and Model X models for sale in Europe.

Therefore, Tesla has now replicated the global price drop of the Model 3 and Model Y earlier this year and earlier in October 2022 in China. Due to their very different outcomes, the reductions appear to also be based on the relative demand in the various markets.

In Europe, for instance, the Model Y Long Range was only 3.5% cheaper in Germany than it was in Norway, France, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. In Germany, the Model Y Long Range cost more than 15% less, but these 2000 euros only cover the state’s environmental bonus.
