First Look at the Tesla App’s New Energy App Function

The Tesla app now includes yet another brand-new feature. With the Tesla app 4.16.1, it appears that the brand-new Vehicle Range feature, which shows how much energy your vehicle used on its most recent trip and while parked, is being tested.

Richard Lopes from Watts on Wheels, a fully electric car rental company in Portugal, discovered that Tesla is testing this feature in specific areas. The brand-new Energy App, which debuted in vehicles with version 2022.36 the previous year, is very similar to the new Vehicle Range feature.

Vehicle Range

You can see how much energy your car used on its last trip and when it was parked with Vehicle Range. Driving, Climate, Elevation, Battery Conditioning, and Everything Else are just a few of the energy use categories broken down by Vehicle Range, which is similar to the Energy App on the vehicle.

With a few exceptions, the Energy App should look almost identical to the one in the car if you are already accustomed to it. Tesla seems to have taken out a few features to maybe make your phone’s interface easier. While you can switch between Tesla’s projected range and the rated range in the vehicle, the app only appears to allow you to view the overall expected range, which is called “Trip.” The trip projection considers the driving speed, elevation of the road, ambient temperature, and wind direction and speed.

The feature will be accessible by tapping Service followed by Vehicle Range in the app’s Service section.

The Tesla app’s source code showed that this feature would be added in a future update, but Tesla may soon be ready to make it available to everyone.

Availability

Since it is not yet available to the majority of users, it would appear that Tesla is testing this feature only in select regions and vehicles. Before making features available to a wider audience, Tesla has a history of testing them in a select number of vehicles or countries.

Based on a server-side configuration, Tesla probably restricts this feature to a select group of users. Tesla could launch the feature at any time, but they might also want to fix bugs that might necessitate an app update.

Legacy Model S and Model X

This feature is available on older Model S vehicles, which do not yet support the new Energy App feature. This makes the feature interesting.

This may indicate that Tesla intends to include support for the new Energy App in legacy vehicles as well as in a forthcoming vehicle update.
