Google releases new high-definition maps and a redesign of Android Auto

Google unveiled a brand-new HD version of its Maps service for Android Automotive-equipped automobiles. The new HD maps will include road barriers and signs, lane-level localization, and more. The Volvo EX90 and Polestar 3 models will feature the feature, which makes use of the vehicle’s lidar, radar, and camera sensors to make driving safer.

Users of Volvo’s HD maps demo will see a detailed model of their vehicle that imitates every driver’s action on the screen. Only vehicles that use Google Automotive Services will be able to access HD maps.

HD maps will also work with Volvo’s Pilot Assist feature and future autonomous driving platforms from other automakers to give drivers of assisted and autonomous vehicles the best driving experience possible.

Google smart home devices can also be used to remotely check in Volvo and Polestar vehicles. A variety of useful features, including asking Google Assistant to warm up their vehicles and check the battery’s percentage, will be available to users.

The remote check-in feature will be available in the United States initially and later this year in other markets. Additionally, Google announced that the Renault Austral Hybrid and Megane E-Tech vehicles now support the brand-new Waze app for Android Automotive.

Split-screen apps for content playback and navigation are given priority in the new Android Auto UI, so you won’t have to constantly switch between apps while driving. While some automobiles can simultaneously run up to three app panes, others can only run two apps side by side. On the dock, you’ll be able to easily access your apps library, notifications, and Google Assistant.
