Tesla releases app update for frozen door handles

Recently, Tesla has released a new mobile app update whereby it includes a solution for a car that has frozen door handles. Notably, Model 3 which faced a problem in its first winter, reveals that electric cars have some problems in cold weather. In order to sort the same, Tesla ensures that they investigate the same.

To make you aware, in cold weather some owners face difficulties while entering their vehicles. Since their door handles wouldn’t open, the windows would jam and also charge port would freeze shut. To timely address the issue, after a week, Tesla arrive with a software update in order to tackle some of those issues.

Additionally, it also released a new software update later in order to use climate control. This is to help the charger port when it becomes frozen.

Also, the new door handle design used in Tesla Model 3 and Model Y comes with a tendency to freeze shut at times.

Tesla has launched a new version of its mobile app (Version 4.14.0) adjoint with a new vehicle software update (2022.36+) that helps to resolve this issue during the situation of emergencies.

Key pointers

  • Lock Screen widget to display vehicle battery range.
  • Quick control to unlatch Model 3 or Model Y driver door, helpful if the door handle is frozen (*)

Note: Vehicle software version 2022.36+ required.

Whereas the app now allows Tesla owners to directly unlatch the driver’s door remotely. And as per Tesla release notes, “helpful if the door handle is frozen.”

Tesla drivers were earlier also able to lock and unlock the doors through the app. While this has been unlatch once activated manually. Also, this new update allegedly directly unlatches the doors with this app. This overcomes the need for the handle together.

Although, it depicts that the door handle is not the failure point in the situation of extreme cold. Moreover, Tesla uses a frameless window design on its doors. While its window also needs to lower down a little to get past the trim before opening the door. It is supposed to happen automatically during using the door handles but that’s also frozen.

Concurrently, whilst the pp may unlatch the door, still you would need to apply force it past the trim if the window is frozen.
