A Romanian Battery Fire Allegedly Destroyed the Whole Dacia Spring

The owner asserts that he has video that unequivocally demonstrates the fire started in the power pack beneath the automobile.

It was the very first occurrence of its sort in Romania and the second such one concerning the Chinese-built EV across the continent when a Dacia Spring electric urban car seized fire in Romania and burnt to a char.

On the Dacia Spring Romania Facebook page, the owner of the car made a post about what happened and included images of the fire’s aftermath. He claimed the fire started on May 11 at 5 p.m. when his wife was driving the automobile close to their house in Timis region, western Romania.

Ionel Carnu claimed that the wife, who was around 330 yards from their house and was picking up their son from school, became alarmed when she heard a loud noise coming from underneath the car that sounded like a hissing and squeaking sound. She informed her husband on the phone that heavy smoke was beginning to emanate from the region beneath the car, which is where the drive battery is located.

She kept driving until she came close to her house, at which point she instantly pulled over and got out of the car with her son. Ionel said on Facebook that his Dacia Spring was entirely destroyed by fire and that it took fifteen minutes after that for the car to go up in flames.

Authorities discovered that the car had been fully damaged by the fire as they reached on the site. The initial cause of the incident was determined to be a short circuit, but it was unclear whether the battery or other electric system parts had been involved.

The owner claimed to have had the vehicle for one and a half years, starting from the time he purchased it, and to have been quite happy with it. Additionally, he mentioned that he always charged the car at home. thankfully there are still eighteen months left of the car’s warranty, and it is completely insured. The car’s odometer read 36,000 kilometres (22,400 miles).

Ionel provided additional information in a post three days after the sad incident, including his conviction that the fire started in the power pack.

“I have previously provided regulators and Dacia representatives photographs and videos of the terrible occurrence that clearly show how the thick smoke is only coming from the electrical charge location.” he claimed. He knows the car caught fire, and he doesn’t think there could be another explanation.

That must be determined by professionals, and in the following days, a team of engineers from Dacia’s main plant in Mioveni, Romania, will visit the wreck and conduct technical analysis. Dacia also let the owner know that the team would speak with his wife and request comments about the events leading up to and following the incident.

It goes without saying that if the car had caught flames while being driven at a fast pace or when parked in a garage, something tragic may have happened. The Carnu family claims that the incident has left them traumatised and that they will never again operate a Dacia Spring. When we hear back from Dacia and its parent organisation Renault concerning a formal statement concerning this occurrence, we’ll update this area.

In November 2022, a car caught fire in a parking lot while charging, marking the first known incident with a Dacia Spring.
