NHTSA opens an investigation into Tesla Model Y steering wheels that are falling off

Following the filing of two reports regarding the falling off of steering wheels while driving, the NHTSA declared that it is starting an inquiry into the Tesla Model Y. With numerous investigations ongoing, Tesla is quickly becoming the NHTSA’s preferred client.

As reported, a Model Y driver was found with the wheel in his hand and totally unattached to the steering column. According to reports, at least two automobiles allegedly had this problem, which is a very serious flaw.

Tesla was informed about the new inquiry by NHTSA, and the business then conducted some research to determine the cause of the steering wheels coming off. It appears that both of the implicated vehicles received so-called end-of-line repairs, which required the removal of the steering wheel.

Quality Control Issue

When a step during the assembly process is missed, the quality control department must perform an end-of-line repair. It indicates that the car needs to be removed so the problem may be fixed. We don’t know what the problem was, but Tesla acknowledged that both vehicles’ steering wheels had to be taken off.

It appears that whoever finished the repair forgot to secure the steering wheel with a bolt. Unacceptable and shocking circumstance. Was it truly just those two cars that were involved?

Tesla Under the Scanner

NHTSA will issue a recall order to Tesla if it determines that there is a chance that more cars could have the steering locking nut either slack or totally missing. If it just affects a few vehicles, it can be resolved fairly quickly, but if the issue affects many vehicles, Tesla will have to put its service centres on overtime.

Tesla News

When it refers to Tesla, there is never a dull moment. In the morning, Elon Musk reiterates that the company’s next-generation vehicles would be totally autonomous. In the afternoon, however, the company is once again facing the possibility of a recall. The corporation is currently under a lot of scrutiny from NHTSA despite the fact that the earlier recalls were merely for software problems that were quickly resolved. Could this be the price we pay for advancing technology or for skimping on quality?
